Alumni
Alumni and their spouses are eligible to have a PennCard which allows them to take advantage of many University offerings.
Visit the PennCard Center in person with a valid, government issued photo I.D. Your card will be ready within minutes of having your photo taken. The cost of the card is $30 and can be paid by cash, check, or credit (Visa or Master Card).
As of October 1, 2020, newly-issued Alumni cards are valid for 10 years.
Important Note for Recent Graduates: Generally, records of your alumni status become available to PennCard for the purposes of printing an Alumni card 4-6 weeks after your graduate date (and sometimes longer). Call or email in advance of your visit to check if your card can be made if you are a recent graduate.
Students who are graduating in the near future, but have not graduated yet, cannot receive an Alumni Card.
If you are unable to visit our campus location, you may also apply for an Alumni PennCard by mail via USPS. If you are overseas, please include a pre-paid mailing label with sufficient postage.
Important: You must produce a valid Passport or a valid photo ID issued by a U.S. state, territory, or the U.S. Federal Government to receive your first Alumni PennCard.
You must bring one of the following to the PennCard office:
- A valid passport.
- A valid photo ID issued by a U.S. state, territory, or the U.S. Federal Government (examples: driver's license, state-issued photo ID card, U.S. military ID)
No other documentation can be accepted other than those above. Unacceptable documents include, but are not limited to:
- Reproductions or photographs of documents;
- Expired or otherwise invalid documents;
- Identification cards issued outside of the United States and its territories;
- International driving licenses;
- Voting registration cards;
- Visas or other immigration documents;
- Photo identification from another educational institution.
The PennCard is University property, and should receive the same care as a credit card or government-issued ID card.
The Alumni Card may be used to visit Van Pelt Library within the stated policies of Penn Libraries. It does not confer the privilege to access any academic buildings, residences, laboratories, offices, meeting & social spaces with access controls in place for the safety of current University of Pennsylvania students, faculty, and staff.
Spouses and partners of alumni are eligible to have a PennCard for use of the University libraries and recreation services.
-
Both the PennCard holder and the spouse or partner must come to the PennCard Center.
-
The PennCard holder must bring their valid PennCard and their spouse/partner must bring a valid government issued photo I.D.

Bring documentation that shows proof of marriage or partnership. Acceptable documentation (which must show the same last names or both last names) includes a marriage certificate, a shared lease, a shared bank or credit account or a passport coded for partner or spouse (J2 or F2).
-
A PennCard will be issued that will expire when the sponsoring PennCard holder's card expires.
